Cancer

Cancer, The Crab, is the fourth symbol of the Zodiac. Anyone born between 22 June and 22 July is born under this sign. Cancer the Crab comes from part of a tale of the twelve labours of Hercules – his battle with the Hydra. It is a cardinal sign, and is ruled by the Moon. Its symbol is , representing the crab’s claws. Cancer is one of the four water signs.

Moonstone is one of the traditional stones for Cancer. Moonstone is believed to bring good fortune, assist in foretelling the future, enhance intuition, promote inspiration, bring success in love as well as business matters, and offes protection on land and at sea.

Another stone traditionally assigned to Cancer is Emerald. Emeralds are said to protect lovers from unfaithfulness, and improve one’s memory and intelligence.

Key words for people born under the sign of Cancer are said to be: Emotional type, stubborn, seeks safety and closeness. Cancers are very much family people. Cancer rules the chest, breasts, stomach and alimentary canal.

Petoskey Stone and Sterling Silver Cuff Bangle and Brown Drusy Agate Ring

After a visit to see my gemstone collection in person, Robbie chose this piece of petoskey stone and piece of drusy agate to be made into a cuff and ring set for his partner.

I love the way the stones are completely different materials, yet still complement each other beautifully!

I finished the ring with a high polish and the cuff with a brushed finish to add some interest and set the off beautifully. Thanks, Robbie!

Gemini

Gemini, The Twins, is the third symbol of the Zodiac. Anyone born between 22 May and 21 June is born under this sign. Gemini refers to the twin brothers Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology. It is a mutable sign, and is ruled by the planet Mecury. Its symbol is , representing the companions. Gemini is one of the four air signs.

Agate is the traditional stone for Gemini. Agate is believed to help you to discern truth, improve memory and concentration, increase stamina, prevent insomnia and ensure pleasant dreams, enhance personal courage, protect you against danger, and provide a calming influence.

Another stone traditionally assigned to Gemini is Citrine. It is thought to bring sucess to businesses, and be good for self esteem.

Key words for people born under the sign of Gemini are said to be: Philosopher, witty, communicative, mobile, takes pleasure in learning. Geminis are always on the go. Gemini rules the arms, lungs, shoulders, hands, nervous system and brain.

Taurus

Taurus, The Bull, is the second symbol of the Zodiac. Anyone born between 21 April and 21 May is born under this sign. Taurus, the latin word for Bull, is a fixed sign, and is ruled by the planet Venus. Its symbol is , representing the bull’s face and horns. Taurus is one of the four earth signs.

Sapphire is the traditional stone for Taurus. Sapphire is believed to enhance intuitive abilities.

Another stone traditionally assigned to Taurus is Aventurine. It is thought to bring luck and opportunity.

Other stones for Taurus include Amber, Coral, Emerald, Rose Quartz, Turquoise and Azurite.

Key words for people born under the sign of Taurus are said to be: sensual, pleasure-seeker, steadfast, strives for security. Taureans see red when continually provoked. Taurus rules the throat, neck, thyroid gland and vocal tract.

Aries

Bloodstone, also known as heliotrope, is one of the birthstones for Aries. It is believed to be a grounding force.

The other stone traditionally assigned to Arians is the diamond. Diamonds are thought to enhance your ability to cut through clutter and see facts clearly.

April – Diamond

Key words for people born under the sign of Aries are said to be: willpower, impulsive, initiative, courage, energy, activity. An Arian often rushes headlong into things. Aries rules the head, brain and eyes.

Arians share their sign with such notables as Vincent Van Gogh, Bette Davis and Harry Houdini.

Family Crest Garnet and Sterling Silver Ring

I created this ring for Scott to give to his wife for their wedding anniversary. He wanted to show her how much a part of his family she was by sharing his family crest with her in some way.

He provided me with some great information and some pictures of his traditional family crest. After quite a bit of design discussion, as this ring was to be feminine, we settled on using a portion of the drawing to create the feeling of the crest – I really loved this swirly winglike piece!

Using a garnet to symbolise the red that appeared throughout the family crest (and which, of course, also symbolises love), I was very very happy with the end result. Thanks so much, Scott, it was a pleasure to work with you!

Cherry Creek Jasper and Sterling Silver Pendant

Margaret, a lovely woman I met at my stall at the BrisStyle indie Markets, chose this stone from my gemstone collection, and commissioned me to create a pendant for her daughter’s birthday.

I spent quite a while deciding whether to have the stone pointing up or down – I went with down as you can see! The granulation just adds a little something, I think.

Sterling Silver Coherent Wave Pendants

While I was creating the lovely Margaret Ingles her coherent wave pendant, she decided that she would love to have one each for her two daughters, too!

I was happy to create this pair of pendants to match Margaret’s.

Margaret is such a lovely person, it was a joy and a pleasure to work with her! Thanks, Margaret, you’re a treasure!

Lion Rampant – or the Gatecrasher Sterling Silver Ring

After I created this rectangle overlay ring for Cam, he decided he would like me to make him another one. He sent me a drawing of what he was after, and I created this ring for him.

The lion rampant is a traditional crest symbol, however in this instance the lion has a different meaning.

A famous trance music emblem, this Gatecrasher lion has been around for a while!

This piece was so much fun to create, and was a challenge to my sawing abilities. Thanks again, Cam, and I hope we can work together again some day!
