I was pleased to be invited to the 2014 Mount Eliza Art and Design Show, and I’ve just sent off a parcel of all of these pieces to be displayed and made available for sale.
The show is on from 24th to 26th October in Mount Eliza, Victoria. I’m sure it will be lovely. If you’re in the area, pop in for a visit and do let me know what it’s like!
My lovely friend Margaret is an artist, and I met her when she commissioned me to create this coherent wave pendant for her to wear to her art exhibition, Bliss.
The symbol is for infinity, of course, and also represents the number eight, which is a very lucky number in Asia and kept cropping up throughout Margaret’s painting journey!
We selected the turquoise, chrysoprase and amazonite as they were such delicious water colours, and I added the sparkling white topaz which reminds me of the sparkling water too.
Flirting with the Light (painting by Margaret Ingles)
Thanks, Margaret, your visions are lovely, and you’re a joy to work with!
Toni fell in love with the indigo beads on these earrings, and after she had purchased herself a pair, she wondered if I could create her a matching bracelet and necklace.
I love getting custom requests, so I was happy to oblige!
Toni loves them, and has received lots of compliments. Happy all round!
I have a very lovely mum and granny, who sometimes give me cash for birthday and Christmas presents with instructions to buy myself smithing tools. I have a little wish list (of course!), and one of the items on it was a disc cutter.
I use a lot of circles in my pieces, (being a fan of the ellipse!) and cutting them out by hand is a lengthy and sometimes tedious process.
The disc cutter is made from two steel ‘wheels’, bolted together, with various sized circles (in this case from 3mm to 32mm) cut in them. You slide a sheet of metal in between the wheels, tighten the bolt, and use the appropriate matching punch (which are made from special tool steel, hardened and ground) to cut through the metal.. The ends of punches are sharpened at a slight angle to enable them to cut through metal up to 1mm thick as if it were – well – butter!
You can see the sheet of silver I’m cutting here has already seen some disc cutting action.
The end result is a perfect circle, every time. I do love my disc cutter ~ thank you, lovely family!
SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood; and supporting bereaved families. They deliver on their vision through world class research; evidence based education and bereavement support; and advocacy.
In Australia each year over 3,500 families experience the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child, either through stillbirth or during the first month of life, from sudden unexpected death in infancy (SIDS or fatal sleeping accidents), SUDC (sudden unexpected death in childhood) or accident.
Sadly, for many of these deaths there is no known cause. For example, more than half the deaths of unborn babies during the last 8 weeks of pregnancy each year are unexplained.
SIDS and Kids works to find answers for parents by funding and supporting vital research into stillbirth, SIDS and safe sleeping practices. Through evidence based community education we aim to prevent these deaths and we advocate for and support bereaved families.
I’ll be donating 10% of all The Silver Forge proceeds to this very worthy cause this month, so if you can help out, do pop into The Silver Forge shop and get yourself a little something at the same time!
