It was my mum’s birthday a while back, and as I know she’s been coveting a tanzanite ring for a long time now, I thought it was about time I made her one!
Even though they’re not ‘sought after’, I like the inclusions in this stone – I think they give it depth and interest.

A lovely bloke, who previously commissioned these stacking rings for his partner, asked if I could create her a ring using one of the gemstones he saw in my collection and loved.

Setting stones with corners presents a challenge, and I’m really pleased with the way this one turned out.
Mookaite is a type of silicified porcelanite, which forms in silt-stone from the lower Cretaceous periodĀ that is found over much of the Carnarvon Basin in Western Australia.

The name Mookaite is derived from Mooka Creek, where the rock is mined.Ā According to locals, the Aboriginal word āmookaā means ārunning watersā.

Mookaite is believed to be a healing stone that bestows strength. It is said to shield the wearer from difficult situations and to connect us to loved ones who have passed away. It is thought to assist with assessing problems and making decisions.Ā Mookaite is used to treat glandular or stomach disorders, hernias, ruptures and water retention.
