Chrysocolla Cabochon

Chrysocolla Oval Cabochon

The gorgeous chrysocolla gemstone cabochon shown here is 35mm long.

Like malachite, chrysocolla has a high copper content, which is what gives it that fabulous blue/green colouring. The name comes from the Greek chrysos, (gold), and kolla, (glue).

It is believed to have a calming influence, and also to attract love. It is supposed to help heal burns, fever, and detoxify the liver.

I used this cabochon to create this custom piece:

Mookaite Cabochon

Mookaite Cabochon

The beautiful, earthy mookaite gemstone cabochon shown here is 32mm long, and is available to be handcrafted into a custom made ring or pendant for you. It even has a little picture of a fish in it!

Mookaite is silicified porcelanite, which forms in silt-stone from the lower Cretaceous period that is found over much of the Carnarvon Basin in Western Australia. The name Mookaite is derived from Mooka Creek, where the rock is mined. According to locals, the Aboriginal word “mooka” means “running waters”.

Mookaite is believed to be a healing stone that bestows strength. It is said to shield the wearer from difficult situations and to connect us to loved ones who have passed away. It is thought to assist with assessing problems and making decisions. Mookaite is used to treat glandular or stomach disorders, hernias, ruptures and water retention.

Pantone – 2014 Autumn Colours

Autumn is on its way, and Pantone have released the next round of the latest colour trends! I’ve raved about Pantone colour in some previous blog posts herehere and here. And as you can see, I’m still loving the concept. I’m not sure how many of these colours I’ll be wearing this autumn, but you never know!Pantone Gemstones Fall 2014

I’ve browsed my gemstone collection and matched these autumn colours – if any of these gemstones appeal to you, let me know and I can create you something beautiful to go with your latest Autumn fashion choices. And you can always go with Phosphosiderite for that Radiant Orchid splash!

Chrysocolla and Sterling Silver Pendant

When I came across this beautiful piece of chrysocolla, I just knew I had to have it! My mum has a gorgeous close-up print of the bark of a gum tree hanging in her house, and this reminded me very much of that.

After some deliberation, and some collaboration, I created this pendant for her.

I was really happy with the way this piece turned out – I think it is one of my favs so far!

My good friend Narelle asked if I could create a pendant for her to give to a good friend of hers.

Narelle sent me some sketches of ideas she had, and we agreed on this design, which incorporates the first initial of the name of each of the members of the family.

The lovely Mel was a lucky one at Christmas time – her husband gave her a drusy agate and sterling silver ring.

He originally bought a ring from my shop, but when it arrived, he realised that he had misjudged the size.

Bright Green Drusy Agate and Sterling Silver Ring I was happy to help by getting him to return it, and creating a custom made one instead! Louis chose the ring from my gemstone collection.

I created this pendant for my best friend. Her lovely father passed away recently, and she needed something to wear close to her heart. Seraphim were angels, and seraphinite is named because of the feathery appearance of the stone, so is a lovely choice for this piece.

I designed it to have six feathery figures gathered around the stone, to represent Mick’s six children. Morgan said the pattern also reminded her of olive branches, which was lovely, as her dad used to take her walking in olive groves.

Seraphinite is believed to promote self healing and aid with contacting the spirit world.

I love you my dear friend, and I hope some gentle peace comes your way.

I love the way the stones are completely different materials, yet still complement each other beautifully!

I finished the ring with a high polish and the cuff with a brushed finish to add some interest and set the off beautifully. Thanks, Robbie!

Margaret, a lovely woman I met at my stall at the BrisStyle indie Markets, chose this stone from my gemstone collection, and commissioned me to create a pendant for her daughter’s birthday.

I spent quite a while deciding whether to have the stone pointing up or down – I went with down as you can see! The granulation just adds a little something, I think.

Thank you so much, Margaret, and I hope that your daughter loves her new pendant!
