My name is Ruthie, and here’s a bit about me, your silversmith! I live in Brisbane, Australia. I’ve been silversmithing since 2005. My passion is making comfortable and luxurious jewellery for people to enjoy every day.
I have a never-ending love affair with colour. I believe natural substances are best! Therefore silver, stone, glass and wood all appeal to me greatly. Science, nature, and finding out what makes the world go round are things I adore. (Love does, of course, but the scientific natural stuff too!) Similarly, finding quirky, strange, fantastical, mind-expanding things is a passion of mine. I love art for art’s sake, above all wearable, touchable art. Most of all, I love to go down to my workshop and create silver jewellery.
The creative process encompasses all kinds of aspects, from daydreaming to art drawing and design. After that, there is the more physical metal preparation – for example sawing and soldering, hammering and bending. These delicate yet robust physical procedures are where shininess and beauty come from. Being able to share that beauty with others brings me joy.
I believe in leaving a minimal eco footprint, kindness as religion, and occasionally turning the music up to eleven. My business policy is to give back to the world. I love my family, and I love visiting the sea, Lego, reading police crime fiction, and practicing my circus skills.
My great-great-great grandfather, my great-great uncle and my great-grandfather were blacksmiths, so I like to think that I’m carrying on the family smithing tradition in a small way!
The Silver Forge came about as a natural progression from my study of silversmithing. All my pieces are made in my own studio at home. They are made entirely by hand using traditional methods and tools.
I am not taking custom orders at present. Please feel free to contact me at The Silver Forge if you would like to be notified when my custom diary reopens. You can contact me here, or visit with me on Instagram or Facebook.
I look forward to making your world a more beautiful place! Meanwhile, I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little more about me, your silversmith.
