The mineral pyrite (or iron pyrite) is an iron sulfide. This mineral’s metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of fool’s gold. Pyrite may tarnish with humidity. If you keep it in closed plastic bag, just like sterling silver, it will not tarnish.
