Opal and Sterling Silver Gumleaf Pendant

A friend from circus training needed a gift for a girl about to have her bat mitzvah in the US. He wanted something that was age appropriate, timeless, and Australian without being tacky.

Chrysocolla

According to Wikipedia, Chrysocolla is a hydrated copper cyclosilicate mineral with the formula (Cu,Al)2H2Si2O5(OH)4·nH2O. Hehehe, such a convoluted scientific string! I guess that just means it’s a compound, which is apparent from the many wonderful blue/green colourways that can be seen in various pieces.

Chrysocolla is a minor ore of copper, and like malachite, has a high copper content, which is what gives it that fabulous blue/green colouring.

The name Chrysocolla derives from the Greek chrysos (gold) and kolla (glue), referring to its use as a flux in soldering gold. The term has been used since antiquity.

The Silver Forge – Grass is Greener Collection

Large Green Sea Glass Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

I’m spending some time reviewing past collections I’ve created. ‘Grass is Greener’ grew out of my love for the colour green, and in particular my love for green seaglass!

Long Green Seaglass Pendant Necklace

There’s something magical about seaglass, and green seaglass is not so easy to find as brown or white, so is usually more sought after.

Square Green Seaglass Pendant

I love creating with it, as every piece is completely unique!

Green Seaglass Triangle Sterling Silver Claw Set Pendant

I also love green glass in other forms, for instance these handblown glass bubbles are divine:

And of course there is always wonderful Czech glass:

Asparagus Green Oval Czech Glass and Sterling Silver Dangle Earrings

Emerald Green Czech Glass Sterling Silver Modern Contemporary Drop Earrings

When I came across this beautiful piece of chrysocolla, I just knew I had to have it! My mum has a gorgeous close-up print of the bark of a gum tree hanging in her house, and this reminded me very much of that.

After some deliberation, and some collaboration, I created this pendant for her.

Seraphinite and Sterling Silver Pendant

Seraphinite and Sterling Silver Pendant

Seraphinite and Sterling Silver Pendant

I created this pendant for my best friend. Her lovely father passed away recently, and she needed something to wear close to her heart. Seraphim were angels, and seraphinite is named because of the feathery appearance of the stone, so is a lovely choice for this piece.

Seraphinite Pendant

I designed it to have six feathery figures gathered around the stone, to represent Mick’s six children. Morgan said the pattern also reminded her of olive branches, which was lovely, as her dad used to take her walking in olive groves.

Seraphinite and Sterling Silver Pendant

Seraphinite is believed to promote self healing and aid with contacting the spirit world.

I love you my dear friend, and I hope some gentle peace comes your way.

Story of a Beautiful Tree

I bought the most divine wooden tree puzzle from my lovely friend, Kylie, and it lives in my study where it brings me joy each day! I was inspired so much by it, that I asked Kylie how she would feel if I were to borrow her beautiful tree design for the ‘Earth’ symbol in my new Elementals range. She kindly agreed to let me! I feel honoured both that she was happy for me to use her gorgeous tree shape, and that she liked the pendant I created so much that she bought it! Below is a blog post that she wrote about it. You can read it in full over at Kylie’s Raw Toys website!

From Puzzle to Pendant

Back when I first started my little shop, I made a handful of two piece tree puzzles. I sold most of them and have not felt inclined to make more so I discontinued them. Out of the blue, I received an email from my silversmithing friend, Ruthie, from The Silver Forge, asking my permission to use the design from one of these trees she had purchased a while back for an idea she had in mind.
It’s no secret how much I adore Ruthie’s work, so as you can imagine, I was thrilled with the idea! Here is the original tree puzzle belonging to Ruthie:
And here is her finished piece.. my tree design as a stunning silver pendant!
I developed an instant crush on this pendant and decided that I neeeded to be it’s owner. The beautiful tree pendant and I are now insperable and it’s especially perfect that it features my birthstone, the peridot. Thank you so much, Ruthie, I treasure each of the beautiful creations of yours that I’m lucky enough to own – you are a rockstar!

Thank you so much, Kylie!

Grassy Green Drusy Agate and Sterling Silver Ring

My lovely friend Kylie, from Raw Toys, arranged for her birthday present this year to be one of my drusy pieces! I feel very honoured.

Grassy Green Drusy Agate and Sterling Silver Ring

Kylie thought my usual rings might be a bit too chunky for her because she has small hands, so asked would I be able to make her a ring a bit smaller than my usual style. Of course I was totally happy to oblige! I sourced her a special lovely small green piece of drusy.

Grassy Green Drusy Agate and Sterling Silver Ring

Kylie is really happy with the way this ring turned out (she even blogged a little bit about that 🙂 ), and that makes me feel happy, too. I love being able to make one of a kind pieces for lovely people!

Grassy Green Drusy Agate and Sterling Silver Ring

Thank you so much, Kylie! And for any lovers of beautiful wooden toys and puzzles, head over to Kylie’s MadeIt Shop or her Raw Toys blog and see her gorgeous work. It’s well worth a visit.
